Mehret Mandefro and Lacey Schwartz Delgado are award-winning producers/writers/directors. The content they create is deeply connected to an awareness and centering of people of color, women, public health, and wellness. The unique thread running through all of their work is their research-based approach which builds story from the bottom up and draws on their interdisciplinary training which weaves their analytical skills into the content to ground their stories it in community and data. Mehret and Lacey first met in graduate school at Harvard, respectively when they were in medical school and law school. They both came to realize that telling stories was the most effective way for them to be change-makers and to reach the most people. They decided to combine their creative visions with their ability to work across disciplines and fields. Following law school, Lacey started her career at Radical Media working on branded entertainment and went on to work with and for a variety of networks and companies as a producer and strategic consultant. Following her medical residency, Mehret deepened her training as a Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholar, White House Fellow and by getting a Masters in Public Health and a PhD in visual anthropology. In 2008, they came together and founded Truth Aid, which has a for-profit production company called Truth Aid Media and a non-profit arm called Truth Aid Impact. Lacey and Mehret also both have experience being in front of the camera in addition to being behind it. Their journey into storytelling began with both of them putting their personal stories on the screen in two feature documentaries. Whether it’s speaking on a TED stage, or hosting broadcast television, the command they have over their stories has led them to develop relationships with communities across sectors that create opportunities for them to reach a wide-range of audiences with maximum impact.
